The Flamboyant Pavilion
Flamboyant Pavilion explores the duality of rigid and fluid in a single system. This piece incorporates orthogonal and curvilinear members to achieve a flexible form that can adapt to various topographic and programmatic constraints.
I researched, in depth, the distribution of the Chilean Flamingos across Chile, simultaneously exploring how the type of vegetation and human infrastructure has affected the density and distribution of these Chilean Flamingos.
The Chilean Flamingo was analyzed with respect to its movement. Its right vertebrae have the unique ability to take on a flexible form and the creature transforms its body to adapt to its site.
Transforming models were developed from this investigation that explore the flamingos’ structure and movement. Ultimately, the pavilions capture the dynamic quality of the transforming models: static architecture becomes kinetic as the occupant moves through it.
Below are a series of Plans, Sections and Elevations of the Flamboyant Pavilions
